Inspire Your Audience

“The audience may forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel." --Tucker Barkley.
Sometimes in the dance world we get so caught up in technique that we forget that it’s the love of dance that brought us to the rehearsal hall in the first place. And we also forget that the audience gives up their Saturday night, and usually their hard-earned cash, not because they want to be impressed, but because they want to be inspired. While it’s true that practicing perfection promotes polished performance, let’s love, laugh, and live through our dancing to uplift the hearts and spirits of those who watch us.
How can we do this? Focus on the audience of One, on how the music makes you feel, on your partner. Know what you’re trying to say with each move – it’s not just choreography, but an expression of the story and the emotion as the dance evolves.
Other ideas? Please share them with us so we can be collectively inspired, to keep us refreshed, our audience uplifted, and our art form alive!

Blessings Laurie,

I suppose I should be reading more of your other blog but I was curious to see what you have in Rhapsody Ballroom. It's too bad that you don't have more... maybe you could post some of your videos here to INSPIRE!

The opening quote was a good one!But this one is better:
"While it’s true that practicing perfection promotes polished performance, let’s love, laugh, and live through our dancing to uplift the hearts and spirits of those who watch us."

I also believe the expression on your faces needs to match the music or the mood. I think it is more difficult for the male partner with all the lifts, but the JOY and LIGHT shines through the radiance in your
face and connection of Love!

The true audience is One! He's always watching! I think He's smiling also!

Peace and hope in Christ,
Peggy
KEEP DANCING for ONE and HIS GLORY be SHOWN! Love your songs and singing also! The one I so wanted to see, was not available for this country. "O Holy Night" (sigh)

Hi Peggy,
So sorry I didn't spot your comment sooner -- one of my New Year's resolutions is to keep this blog current! Thanks for the encouraging words and the great quote! Technique means nothing without passion. It is a great blessing to us both when we can touch even one person with our dancing, and an even greater blessing to know that He is always watching!
May God bless you and your ministry richly in 2012 and beyond!
Laurie
