Inspire Your Audience

“The audience may forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel." --Tucker Barkley.
Sometimes in the dance world we get so caught up in technique that we forget that it’s the love of dance that brought us to the rehearsal hall in the first place. And we also forget that the audience gives up their Saturday night, and usually their hard-earned cash, not because they want to be impressed, but because they want to be inspired. While it’s true that practicing perfection promotes polished performance, let’s love, laugh, and live through our dancing to uplift the hearts and spirits of those who watch us.
How can we do this? Focus on the audience of One, on how the music makes you feel, on your partner. Know what you’re trying to say with each move – it’s not just choreography, but an expression of the story and the emotion as the dance evolves.
Other ideas? Please share them with us so we can be collectively inspired, to keep us refreshed, our audience uplifted, and our art form alive!
